No it's like black and queer/trans kinky-happy twitter all moved over first to Bluesky. They've had social issues too (which seems inevitable given the smallish team building it and being constantly on the back foot re moderation - stupid given how much VC money they got) - but it's not X.
It's a strange vibe, sure. I'm not very active there.
@sarajw@JesseSkinner should've said 'crappy tech bro' instead of all out fascist but he's friends with Musk (DEFINITELY a racist, terf, eugenicist, take your pick of shitty crap, and I had no idea the full extent til this year), so... if the shoe fits.. he's guilty by association to me. And yeah, it sounds odd over there. I finally got an invite and just tossed it haha. I'm fine here. I want no more walled stuff (still dealing with an Instagram account or two, a lot of which I really want to move most of to pixelfed).
@jake4480 while Jack Dorsey is exactly what you say he is, Bluesky is not really his.
The whole idea with BS was to make a decentralised protocol, they hope it'll be like activitypub but better (I don't really know why they think they can do it better, either), but the idea is not to remain a walled garden. People are supposed to be able to up sticks and move themselves and all their posts, too. Whether that will ever happen though 🤷
@sarajw it'll be interesting to see if they actually end up getting the decentralized thing to work and integrate with here? Wonder how far along that is.
@jake4480 yeah I dunno if they'd actually try and join the fediverse, now. I do think it's a shame they didn't work with it instead of building something new and different...
I'm not like some kind of Bluesky champion, but there are good people on there and the misinformation about it spouted here is so off that it needs some challenging.
@jake4480 where have you read that? No I don't like crypto either, but I'm not against blockchain being used to verify users or something - as long as it's not using the old energy intensive proof of work way of doing it.
@sarajw here's one - apparently it's not BASED on it (other than the model) but they are into it, and they're definitely crypto miners too, which I find gross haha. They want to be "more than just a successful crypto mining company". How darling. 😂 That's kinda why I want nothing to do with it. But I get that some people aren't gonna care about that, and I don't judge.
