jezebelkat, Something that I think will always leave me unsettled about being in Japan: the casual use of foreigner (or in Japanese 外国人, 外国の方) in conversations or in publications in ways in which I consider awkward at best and offensive or insulting more often.
Sometimes it is completely irrelevant, yet said anyway. And other times there are nicer, more informative ways to talk about someone's immigration status when it is relevant.
