Today, our headquarters in Brussels are raising an orange flag to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
We will continue to work tirelessly to stop violence against women and girls. We owe it to those who are no longer with us and to all who continue to suffer.
What about violence against men? Think of all of the soldiers killed or wounded in Ukraine. Men are both more likely to commit violence, and to be subject to violence. But just because some cause it, does not mean we should ignore the other men who are victims.
If you don't understand that we live in a patriarchal world, I invite you to read up on violence against women. Yes, men are more violent than women in this culture, and violence against women is the norm. The number of people who don't know what rape is is very high. Comparing this to war makes no sense, firstly because the first victims of war are civilians, who are mostly women, and secondly because the leaders who declare wars (dictators, presidents, etc.) are men.
