just swapped out the 8 year old scissors on one of my production macbook pro's... my gods is it a pleasure to type on again.

i forgot how silent and stiff the keys are supposed to be :D

best $10 upgrade i could have made to this aging beast

@vga256 huh! I’ve never even considered that as a thing I could do, in my head those mid era mbp keyboard were just a single unit thing, aside from the caps.

What’s the wear symptom on the scissors? Just crudded up over time?

@driph the scissor plastics become friable with time and usage. i would describe the key action feeling "crunchy", loose, and clicky. i test the keys by putting my finger on them lightly and wiggling it back and forth. if there's a lot of wiggle, it gets a new scissor. you can compare them by wiggling an often-used key like S with a rarely-used key like 8
