moof,

I've just renewed my Spanish Qualified Digital Certificate, which is useful for signing documents and for accessing Spanish administration websites, amongst other things.

I did it with the Spanish Mint (FNMT), who issued my previous Certificate. It was free, yes, but as Spanish governemnt website, it took way too many uninituitive steps, and required installing two separate pieces of java-based software in order to do it.

Spain's digital certificate infrastructure is second to none, but the issuance of the certificates is still a minor nightmare on Windows, let alone MacOS o Linux. When I next need to do one that requires documentary evidence, I might just go and find myself a third party eIDAS Qualified Digital Certificate Issuer and pay for it just so I don't have to deal with this awkward website.

I may not even have to pay, there seems to be a free letsencrypt-style approach available here: https://certificadoelectronico.es/
