djnavarro,

Thinking about the whole “Substack has a Nazi problem” issue, and the problem we have now where so many people have this problem (again!) where they're stuck on a platform that spreads bigotry. I can’t help but notice that this was wearily predicted by minority folks a long time ago. I remember publicly complaining about it when all the big name transphobes moved there, and it’s like… if you had actually taken us seriously at the time you probably wouldn’t be in this mess now?

djnavarro,

It feels especially egregious in the case of tech bloggers. A lot of people don’t have the skills required to host their own blogs or maintain a newsletter mailing list. I’m kind of sympathetic to people who didn’t have a lot of obvious alternative options, and ended up on substack by default. But that’s not the case for people who write about programming or the like. You actually had a choice. And… we did kind of warn you at the time that substack was a bad one. Maybe next time you’ll listen?

@djnavarro I would hope so, but they're busy speedrunning the same with Bluesky, Threads, et al. The cycle never ends, no matter how many of us it grinds away in the process.
