I read the other day that the difference between wolves and dogs socially is very similar to the difference between neuro typical people and those with Williams syndrome.

I'm not sure what to do with this information but I'm finding myself looking at dogs really differently, now.

@sarajw You know about the connection between domestication and https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoteny ?

@bencurthoys I was vaguely aware but not of that word.

I get that too - but the way that people with Williams syndrome experience the world and other people - suddenly seeing that in a dog's behaviour has made me go "oh".

Yeah so I'm not at all thinking of the physical characteristics of the syndrome, rather the way they interact - or want to interact - with others.

@sarajw I had never heard of Williams Syndrome until a couple of weeks ago when I saw this Matthew Baynton sketch (his nephew has Williams Syndrome) https://youtu.be/iky9lmzqU8E?feature=shared

@hugh well at least he's managed to bring about some awareness 🥲

It must be so hard to have your social needs thermostat set so high that you're basically lonely all the time.
