@ai6yr Ouch. Bad place. Glad you guys had some rain.

ai6yr,

Flightradar24 says there was nothing in the air around there within 5 minutes of the call time. Single call only per scanner.

MsMerope,
@MsMerope@sfba.social avatar

@ai6yr somebody crashed a drone...

ai6yr,

@MsMerope I'm going with a falling star.

ai6yr,

Van Nuys reported no aircraft in the area they were tracking. Two phone calls about a crash were received, per scanner. 🤷

ai6yr,

Report that someone was shooting of flares around Stunt Road in Malibu, per E70 (unclear if that's what people saw).

douglasvb,
@douglasvb@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr that's with their radar system?

Lots of planes and helicopters still don't have ADS-B transponders. And there are certain situations where they're not required even if the air vehicle is so equipped.

ai6yr,

@douglasvb Yep, nothing that Van Nuys was paying attention.

douglasvb,
@douglasvb@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr hmm weird. Maybe a stealth aircraft having issues?

Where's my tin foil...

ai6yr,

@douglasvb Shooting star, almost always, or probably a Starlink train.

ai6yr, (edited )

Heavy smoke somewhere around Piuma Road, possibly related. (Update: smoke was from campfires at Malibu Creek State Park)

ai6yr, (edited )

BC says UTLat original reported location -- smoke looks to be from campfires in Malibu Creek State Park. Helicopters will be checking Piuma and Stunt Road. (Update: Unable To Locate)

@anisian@alaskan.social avatar

@ai6yr What’s the fire weather in the area?

ai6yr,

@anisian It's soggy... UTL.

LarryL,
@LarryL@stranger.social avatar

@ai6yr CHP says, from FAA, sighting reported by 2 AC around the 118 and Havenhurst.. Sounds like a meteor to me

ai6yr,

@LarryL Agree... Or Starlink

@ai6yr how do i get access to a blotter like that but for san diego county? :D

ai6yr,

@Viss Go here and click on Border Communications Center https://cad.chp.ca.gov/Traffic.aspx

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr whoa rad, thanks! :D

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr there isnt one of these for ambulances or fire too, is there?

ai6yr,

@Viss Depends on your area. I have wired in my local departments here. Sheriff's Dept at @vcso_patrol_log and fire at @vcfddispatch_bot -- but San Diego is different. (I haven't wired them in yet, but I could.)

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr i'd be interested in the sorta top-third. whats considered 'north county' san diego. oceanside, vista, carlsbad, san marcos, escondido. whats considered 'city of san diego' is a weird cowprint shape smeared inbetween a bunch of incorporated cities.

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr i think rancho santa fe, the crosby estates, that whole part of town is technically 'city of san diego', but on the left its del mar and la jolla which are their own cities, and on the right is ramona, which is its own city, but in the middle and towards the bottom its all city of san diego.

this place is just weird.

@ai6yr ah - this place, i found it from one of your previous threads, but i guess i have to be a first responder or agency or something to get a login?

mybarkingdogs,

@ai6yr @Viss I recommend that one, it seems really good for here - if you live in an area with say overlapping FDs you can add them all to your feed.

A couple weeks ago it actually was useful to me - had a power dip so checked and yeah, someone had hit a pole nearby.

It was good to know because I didn't have to worry it was something worse

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@mybarkingdogs @ai6yr how do you sign up for this thing if you're not a first responder?

mybarkingdogs,

@Viss @ai6yr For me, I just downloaded via the apple app store, skipped everything when I started it up, and it works

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@mybarkingdogs @ai6yr oh you have to run it on the phone. interesting. i was hoping the web component was accessible the same way, heh

ai6yr,

@mybarkingdogs @Viss Yep, works on Android and iOS, it's aimed at everyday users, not first responders.

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr @mybarkingdogs oh i fixed it. turns out privacy badger and ublock murder it

mybarkingdogs,

@ai6yr @Viss it's interesting (and oddly reassuring) to effectively be your own news desk sometimes.

"What was that loud noise/that bunch of sirens headed for something/power cut"

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@mybarkingdogs @ai6yr yeah this is sorta what im aiming for. ops.alertcalifornia.org for cameras, watchduty for fires, pulsepoint for medics. if there was one for police that covers more or less everything, hah

mybarkingdogs,

@Viss @ai6yr unfortunately a lot of the popo encrypt now, although there's a nice way around that if you have an android device (this makes me want an android, lol)

rfparty here

https://www.dataparty.xyz/

mybarkingdogs,

@Viss @ai6yr from what someone else told me, it works kind of like adsb but for a variety of RF-emitting/bluetooth paired equipment, including certain LE equipment. Obviously that's not the intended use, intended use is to track your own RF stuff but, with the proper technical knowhow it could probably be repurposed as needed. (I'm not liable for that if you do, though)

Other bonus of it would be tracking who's flying drones over your space etc

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@mybarkingdogs @ai6yr cc @nullagent

his talk about using it to track axon devices was chefs kiss

for this use case though, im mainly interested in having a tiny war room kinda setup at home at the press of a button (if another fire burns down san diego, or if there are more riots or if water falls from the sky and people dont understand why or how that could ever possibly happen and panic etc)

pussreboots,
@pussreboots@sfba.social avatar

@Viss @ai6yr Rancho Santa Fe is outside of San Diego the city but still within San Diego County. It’s what San Diegans like to call “North County”

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@pussreboots @ai6yr but they have their own fire department

rachel,

@Viss @ai6yr I actually found a json feed for my area and one of my backloged ideas is to get it displayed in home assistant with a notification if an event is nearby

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar

@rachel @ai6yr im kinda looking for the same. i hadnt considered making it pipe into HA, but i have a pretty complex HA install, so that would be awesome! i'd love to find something like that for san diego county

rachel,

@Viss @ai6yr my county (on the opposite coast) has a webpage with a semi-live map, and in the page source I found the call it makes to populate the data

ai6yr,

@rachel @Viss I've got Ventura County, LA, Inland, and OC wired up. @chp_inland_bot @chp_ventura_bot @chp_losangeles_bot and @chp_orange_bot
