When Ford pardoned Nixon for the same reasons Haley just gave, the electorate was furious and he lost reelection because of it. If the President crimes, people want him or her in jail. No special treatment.

Anyone who would pardon an insurrectionist traitor like #DonTheCon should be in prison themselves. Are we going to amend this Presidential pardon law? It was horribly abused by #DonTheCon. You should not be able to pardon your conspirators in the Russian funded coup of the US government.
Kind of interested in how this might constitute complicity in criminal behavior.

Let's say you are running for governor and say that if elected you will pardon someone if they rob a bank. Does that make you an accomplice to their larceny if they go ahead and rob the bank?

I'm guessing that the blokes who wrote the constitution, especially Article II, Section 2, Clause 1, had not reckoned on the current Republicans.
They should have set a limit of say 2 pardons per person. This would hopefully still leave plenty to bar him from being a candidate.

Oh, she knows it. She just can't say it, what with being a former governor of south carolina, a "lost cause" state, and her desperately needing a strong showing in their feb 24th primary. But she could have code-worded and dog whistled a lost cause-friendly reply better than that, while also blaming Democrats for the civil war (the confederates were Democrats). It was a softball question and she flubbed it.
I still sometimes wonder how/what her father taught at an HBCU, and if he/her mother was a white supremacist, or if Nikki Haley just managed to do that all by herself. 🤨
I suppose it doesn't matter. The end result is this, and that's what we have to contend with.
@GottaLaff@birdpoof 'moderate' now means 'has not yet constructed a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the government.' I'm not personally too concerned about Haley. The GOP is going to nominate someone, that someone is guaranteed to be some flavor of terrible. Right now the best we can hope for is that it is not the guy who is running on a campaign to burn the Constitution. For me, right now, that is the number one priority. Stopping that guy with whatever tool is at our disposal.
@maccruiskeen Every one of them wants to burn the Constitution. Any one of them would surround themselves with likeminded Trumpies. Yes, you should worry about Haley and anyone else running. And of course, stopping him is a priority, but stopping all of them is the number one priority. @birdpoof

The others are just shadows. DeSantis tried to steal his flame and got burned. And you know he won’t concede a loss to Haley or anyone else. He’ll just add it the list of rigged and stollen until he’s dead or in jail.
