I live in the old City of London and did a course on its history. One module was 'Sugar and Slavery', if you scratched the surface you soon realised the British Empire going back to its beginnings in Elizabeth the first reign. Slavery and serfdom were the blood and bones it was built upon. Other folk on the course were very uncomfortable about listening or looking at the facts
@StillIRise1963 Britain only stopped paying the slaver families compensation for quitting slavery in 2015.
Many of the families are still prominent in politics today.
They would undoubtedly do the same again if they could. They try to make the current economy as close to it as possible. Hence homelessness is used to visually scare the working people to comply with worse pay and conditions.
Eg:Our recent prime minister David Cameron's family.

@StillIRise1963 capitalists follow cheap labor wherever it leads. Until consumers stop buying their products they will continue to do so. As long as we continue to buy a sweater or coat for $15, made by workers earning $15 a month, they will continue to abuse workers. If only the consumer realized that the power to make the changes is theirs.
@StillIRise1963 damn capitalism sounds bad let’s check out its track record on the elimination of extreme poverty, hunger, and the growth of human welfare across the past few hundred years, surely if capitalism is simply about the exploitation of the poor they won’t have experienced meteoric improvements on all aspects of their lives

@Robert_Vinson It's always been quite clear where the Mormons stand on race. In my family, we weren't allowed to listen to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for this reason.
