Can’t say it often enough, but never put anything in this shit that is private or not yours to share.

@thomasfuchs I thought it was bad when ChatGPT was making up stuff, but I didn't realise it would be even worse when ChatGPT started not making up stuff! 🤖

Jirikiha,

@thomasfuchs have we not gotten through to everybody that giving passwords willy-nilly is "A Very Bad Thing"?

@thomasfuchs This looks like the ChatGPT frontend mixed up users. In other words: just a regular cloud software f-up, kind of the Buttle-Tuttle-situation. Could happen to any service, like a shopping cart. 😁

Anyways, the advice is good, as you never know what happens with your input. Even in completely different, non-AI, cloud apps. In this case, your input is not meant to to be fed into the training data, but if they can mix up shopping carts, they can mix up everything. 😉

@ketchup71 they will 100% use all the things that people input there for their next round of compiling training data—because they have no other way to refine and grow their models

@datarama I mean, you’re not wrong

@thomasfuchs

Okay, this is all horrible but I cannot fathom a person that has enough brainfarts to TYPE THEIR PASSWORDS anywhere except the place they go to, or a password manager.

znkr,

@WhyNotZoidberg @thomasfuchs that’s not really the interesting part of the story. We know that passwords don’t work: People have been entering their passwords everywhere since the invention of passwords.

WhyNotZoidberg,
@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social avatar

@znkr @thomasfuchs I find it interesting that people don't grasp what "AI" is, or what it does. And yes, that people don't grasp the basics of account (as in information account) management.

But then I follow r/Origin in a large part because the five billion posts a week about people claiming to be hacked after refusing to implement 2FA amuses my evil brain.

badri,
@badri@snipetteville.in avatar

@WhyNotZoidberg @thomasfuchs someone tell me I'm not the only one who redacts personal information from error messages before typing them into duckduckgo

WhyNotZoidberg,
@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social avatar

@badri @thomasfuchs Usually it's enough to just type the general wording anyway. If not, it's probably a hardware problem anyway...

geert,

@WhyNotZoidberg @thomasfuchs Isn't my password auto-replaced by asterisks when typing it in ChatGPT?

WhyNotZoidberg,
@WhyNotZoidberg@topspicy.social avatar

@geert @thomasfuchs isn't your password 8 asterisks? (One of them capital Asterisk of course)
