It doesn't bother me one bit that my wife and I seem to be the only people masked in the airport. I mean, I wish people were being more careful, but I have no problem being the "odd one." Masks aren't a guarantee, but I'd like to be the one feeling healthy and not putting others at risk on the plane, at my destination, and at home.

@augieray bravo....I'm the same...don't care...will probably continue to mask for years now!

@augieray I'm happy to use my white male privilege to set the right trend so I mask up everywhere when I leave the house. It is better if other people people mask as well. Anyone who is exhaling virus will get much of it caught in their mask, so everyone else's mask has less work to do. It improves the odds for all of us. Sadly most don't see it that way.

aevin,

@augieray Before covid, I would often get a cold from vacations. Now I mask while traveling and haven’t caught a cold on several trips!

@augieray I travel frequently and I'm usually they only one with a mask. If anybody asks, I tell them COVID still exists, and in addition, I haven't had a cold in more than three years.

@augieray I always mask up in airports and don't give a toss if I'm the only one or what anyone else thinks.

Sat mostly masked in a restaurant for less than an hour last week, removed it to eat, of course. Counted nine coughs and three sneezes from people tightly packed in the small dining room where we ate. My lunch partner said he hadn't noticed it...

@augieray Me neither, i really enjoy the faces of those who look tol me wearing a mask even when driving my car.
I only take it off at home😂

chaip,

@augieray and don't take planes. Planes kill the planet.

@augieray

It's always preferable to reduce odds.

The fewer infections the less mischief and complications it can inflict.

Covid was a very mild experience for me, less than 'flu', yet the problems it went on to trigger damaged me badly and permanently.

@augieray thank you for helping keep others safe.

Anneke,

@augieray Same thoughts here, except I’m on a crowded train surrounded by “it’s nothing”, “it’s just allergic” and “superhero” coughing and sneezing.

@augieray it's a generally good procedure, even when you're the one that's sick. Most Asian countries (i. e. Japan) have done this since way before the pandemic to take care of themselves and not to bother their pairs.

@augieray Good for you, Augie. It doesn’t bother me a bit to be the rare one wearing a mask either. But truly, before the pandemic I’d see occasional travelers wearing masks and never thought a thing about it. If I thought about it at all, it would be “oh, maybe they have a cold and don’t want to spread it or maybe they don’t want to catch a cold…good on them.”

@augieray Sometimes it doesn’t bother me at all, but occasionally I feel self conscious. A talk to my oldest who has long Covid usually fixes that. 😢

For most my life I swam a mile a day, ate plant-based (zero coronary calcium score in my 60s) & practiced daily lucid dreaming for brain plasticity

Neither a glue sniffer nor a covid snorter, I'll mask at least until I see efficacy #s on transmission risk of next gen intranasal (mucosal) covid vax

Besides known even among the immune uncompromised, ~60% of all who've had COVID likely have viral spikes hiding in their skull, meninges & brain, yikes!

Leisureguy,

@augieray I am on a trip and have noted the paucity of masks, in the airport and on the plane.

marchuff,

@augieray masks aren't a guarantee neither are condoms but the inconvenience is worth the peace of mind

snowchook,

@augieray my husband and I still mask in public indoor spaces, to protect him and his 99 year old dad, who are both asthmatic. We are the only people who do in our little tourist town and are comfortable to keep doing so.

texramone,

@augieray thank you for still masking in public spaces. COVID is still a threat to immune compromised and high risk people like myself, and we appreciate your efforts

JonasR,

@augieray

I also ware a mask when shopping and at other crowded indoor places (which I avoid; only with my mother and 2 friends who never seem to get it, am I indoors without mask). Currently I also wear the mask again in the corridor of the small house where I live, because the is "a cold" in this house, and in the houses left and right .. Some day I will get it, but I avoid it (too much reading and examples of long covid, longterm risk).

Hint: the 3M Aura mask is expensive, but better.
