The founding developer of Firefish has officially stepped down from the project. Keys are being transferred to one of the dev leads.

It appears Firefish IS still breathing, albeit flopping around at the edge of the pond right now.

Many instances migrated to other Forkeys - Sharkey or IceShrimp. A newcomer, Catodon, is also emerging.

Glad to see Firefish given a chance to survive, and wish them the best!

@box464 Nice to at least see some sort of update, was wondering what happened. I had switched my personal instance over to Calckey shortly before the rebrand because I liked the post importer.

Then there was all this hype around the rebrand, and then the project seemed to almost immediately lose all momentum.

7 years (according to GitLab) since initial commit. [for the project, not this contributor]

I'd say whatever happens, it is a very nice run at a problem [with singular approach]. Maybe it keeps running, or maybe not; but it is incredibly impressive.

blake,

@lewiscowles1986 @box464 Initial commit was Misskey. Firefish/Calckey comes into the picture later (not sure when).

Thanks Blake, I was talking about the overall effort, apologies if this seemed like attributing all project success to one contributor; that was not the intent.

Another way to put it, is that the project as a whole has enjoyed 7 years; so really, even if it stops; that is quite the time-span to focus on one approach.

@blake @lewiscowles1986 @box464 Calckey started as a Misskey soft fork in 2022, around the start of 2023 it became a hard fork, mid-2023 was the rebranding to Firefish.

K, folks really don't seem to want any praise going to this project so I'm gon...

Ignore them and continue anyway. Well done forking, well done original forks, well done all contributors.

@lewiscowles1986 only trying to give the facts =) Any popular open source project is rarely the result of the work of just its founder(s). It's fair to give credit to all the projects, forks and upstream, and to the wider community that helped in one way or another! @box464 @blake

At no point have I been anti what came before; but I am reading a lot of these replies; like "this person did not do the work, don't thank them". I'm sorry if that is not what you intended, but I can't fathom why else you feel I'd need to know more about this.
