Every year I get knocked on my back by migraines in February and every year it takes me by surprise. Allergies? Daylight shifts?

@andrew Are you taking a magnesium supplement? (Cove Beam has worked wonders for me) https://www.withcove.com/products/beam

andrew,
@andrew@esq.social avatar

@shwnwllms I'm not, interesting -- I had never read of this magnesium-migraine connection. I'll have to look into it, thank you.

@andrew cove beam is nice since it also has CoQ10 & Riboflavin (there are neurological studies showing all 3 work in combination to lower severity). Most Neuros recommend Magnesium at the very least. Taste isn’t great (Sunny D or Tang) but you get used to it

@shwnwllms I forgot about Sunny D, that could be fun for a little while.

I'm so sorry @andrew
Wish I had an answer for you.

andrew,
@andrew@esq.social avatar

@LorrieW Thanks for the well wishes -- I can mostly manage them with a mix of ibuprofen or acetaminophen and Benadryl. They then become more of a hassle as I'm a groggy goose.

I know some folks can take morphine and not get relief, so I count my wins.

@andrew I take sumatriptan on really bad days, and I take Benadryl every day regardless, but I have noticed that if I periodically take a decongestant (Mucinex D) and a NSAID (Aleve or something), that can prevent the pressure in my head from becoming a full blown migraine. This is great, because I don't like the side effects of sumatriptan.

Migraines are awful. Good luck this month.

@HeatherFromTexas Thanks so much for the well wishes and info!

How do you manage with daily Benadryl? I can generally continue to more or less get things done, but I'm moving through mud.

WhenISayJ,
@WhenISayJ@esq.social avatar

@HeatherFromTexas @andrew my migraines are definitely sinus-related, I take 12 hour Sudafed pretty much daily.

@WhenISayJ @HeatherFromTexas

Do you have any accompanying sniffles or anything if you don't? That is what has always befuddled me, I get the migraines but I don't have any other traditional allergy symptoms.

WhenISayJ,
@WhenISayJ@esq.social avatar

@andrew @HeatherFromTexas I've always had touchy sinuses and for years I thought they were sinus headaches and/or infections. But finally I realized the nerves in my scalp were getting super fired up. And after menopause they turned into multi-day affairs. Once my doctor started treating them as migraines we've had much better luck managing the pain. For me a very short course of prednisone does the trick, sometimes just one dose will clear it in 24 hours.

@andrew @LorrieW So sorry to hear about the migraines. Have you spoken to an allergist or been tested? The women in my family struggle with migraines and we’ve found that Excedrin is the best otc pain reliever for us. It often stops them before they become debilitating.

andrew,
@andrew@esq.social avatar

@LGsMom

I haven't and will have to. They've existed for me right on the edge of being a "I have to get this taken care of" issue. In February, it is all I can think about. Then in March it's the last thing I want to think about. :-)

    @LeGrand And this year they're giving us an extra little slice at the end. Won't someone rid me of this meddlesome month?
