I work on proprietary software since 2 months, let me tell you: you have no idea how FLOSS code is clean and lean, how well FLOSS projects are organized.

If we were flailing and unsustainable like proprietary products, Free and software projects wouldn't get anything done and wouldn't last a year. We are so under-resourced, and our level of expertise is so rare, that we can't afford to be wasteful and inefficient with it.

@KekunPlazas Oh, geez! I wouldn't have expected proprietary software to suffer from such problems 🤔

I guess Open Source is a form of natural selection where only those take part that are passionate about coding, and therefore well-organized (in terms of a codebase).

    @KekunPlazas Yup. Like seriously, FLOSS stuff is often incredibly high quality code – sometimes more UX paper cuts though or other unfinished "grand scheme of things" problems because we tend to get lost in the details.

    Of course there are companies who really do good code internally as well (1P, Sun Microsystems back then), but they're minority.
