    TIL Fedora is packaging a web browser app I developed for elementary OS, stopped updating over three years ago, and marked as end-of-life two years ago—yet it happily shows up in Fedora 40 if you search my name. It crashes on launch, so it doesn’t even work…

    WHY??

    Edit: I guess the package is being EOL'd in Fedora due to it no longer building and this thread, huzzah! My recommendation to distros: don’t package random apps and then not maintain them/communicate with upstream.

    I really need to automate this somehow, but my latest estimate is 3.13 million active users of Flathub!

    This is a number of updates delivered to a popular dependency, org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default//23.08, between the 23.08.14 and 23.08.15 releases. This was less than a month window (March 18 through April 9).

    Pretty impressive stuff!

    For the last 2-3 days I have not been able to send any message on Matrix. At first it was only Element on the browser that would just refuse, and I was opening the phone each time I wanted to reply, but now the phone app is broken as well.

    What if "software repair" was a system feature?

    Every app comes with its source and flatpak manifest, and there's a "Repair" button in the window context menu that opens it in Builder.

    When you're done with your repair it's easy to set a different name/icon (so it shows up as a separate app in the system), install it locally, or share it as a flatpak bundle.

    @tbernard Endless was doing that for a while with a button that would flip the app and open Builder.

    Also "Repair" implies corruption, which should both never happen and get fixed automatically when it's detected.

    @shaadra @nclm @tbernard I know people with engineering degrees that would have no clue what Source in a random place on a GUI like that would mean or couldn’t infer the context. This is about the first contact, not after you have flipped 15 developer switches in settings.

    In retrospect, we should have figured out that Jia Tan was a plant from the fact that they showed up to do releases. In 20+ years of contributions to FLOSS projects I haven't found anybody willing to do the same.

    💡 portal for anonymous telemetry. Hear me out!

    Many developers want to have telemetry so that they can learn about how their app is used and how they perform.

    It can lead to better software, but it's also a privacy nightmare 😮‍💨

    Currently, apps need to enable full network for it (or more) and users have 0 control over it. This is happening. Right now.

    What if there was a way to remove all the negative aspects of telemetry so that we can consider it safe? 🛡️

    Any suggestions for a new monitor?

    Currently I have a FULL HD 27" monitor and the low resolution bugged me since i bought it around 10 years ago.

    The new one should be at least 4k, probably similar size, have a nice height adjustable stand, and ideally have small bezels.

    Edit: price limit 300 Euros

    @thibaultamartin @jsparber At 27' I'd get a 1440p monitor and stick to 100% scaling. For 4k I'd go with at least 32'+ at 200% or maybe fractional scaling if you are not annoyed by it.
