I saw a TikTok recommending putting olive oil in cappuccino. I love olive oil and I love cappuccino, so I was super excited to try it. Can't get over how well it did not work. Somehow combining two things I like turned into undrinkable coffee.
It also reminded me of the story of when Starbucks first introduced their olive oil coffee. Raw olive oil isn't something you can just freely drink, you have to build up a tolerance to it. Without a tolerance it'll basically a laxative, which when combined with coffee (also a laxative), made for not a great time for everyone involved.
@spv@malwaretech My uncle was a small producer just from their home groves and I've been in the press house or whatever they call it and it was like being at a wine tasting. Some of it was actually drinkable but I don't like the idea of it tbh. I can't even imagine putting their very best stuff in coffee. That said I was a big fan when bullet coffee was all the rage in SF.
@malwaretech that sounds like that “bulletproof coffee” trend from a few years ago.
What could go wrong with blending coffee, butter and oil then necking it as soon as you wake up.
@malwaretech I put walnut oil in my whey protein shake because high protein without lipids or carbs isn't great for you. It mings a bit, but isn't intended to be one of life's pleasures.
Olive oil and coffee is just wrong! And, as you say, they're both lovely in their own natural environment.
@malwaretech yea I saw Starbucks has that now too, called "Oleato." no clue if this has been like a delicacy for hundreds of years but I think I'll pass tbh.
I'm waiting for people to popularize it like they did with the "BulletProof" coffee where it's just coffee mixed thoroughly with butter and other fatty oils.
I think there was a theory with that is the fat locks up caffeine which your body metabolizes more slowly, leading to less of a crash.
@malwaretech whether or not that theory actually held up, I dunno, I kinda doubt it. or at least the results will still vary person-to-person much like other 'fads' in the eating and drinking world.
