@eniko My hot take is that AI is great at spinning BS, which is not much of risk for destroying humanity but competes with Silicon Valley CEOs on their core competency and they can't tell the difference
@eniko CEOs are only worried about their bottom line. When they worry about something like this, it’s because they haven’t figured out how they make money off it yet
@eniko my Snapchat ai said it couldn't give answers to my WW2 quiz, gave me answers to obviously WW2 questions, and forgot that it said it couldn't give me answers. I don't think we are near an AI takeover anytime soon
@eniko Grifters got to grift, crypto, NFTs, metaverse, now fake AI... Waste billions that can help humanity to get the share price up and make themselves even more richer.
@eniko to be fair, I could CEOs trying to replace workers with it being the final straw that finally triggers an anti-capitalist uprising, and I can see CEOs meaning “the death of capitalism” when they say “the end of humanity”. So yeah, okay, complete fuckwits.
@foone@eniko#PlotTwist: It turns out that all the Blockchain miners are just cracking the nuclear codes for Google Bard to have access to in it's training database.
@eniko they're exactly like those evangelical grifters - they think the world is coming to an end, but instead of trying to stop it or mitigate the damage their plan is to screw as much money as they can out of everyone in the hope that they'll live out the rest of their days as kings of the apocalypse in their gold-lined bunkers.
@shinmera@eniko really getting "billionaire space race" vibes from all this. those CEOs are all lying awake at night thinking "fuck fuck fuck I gotta be the one it's my right I gotta be the one to destroy it all I'm the special one"
@eniko More like a predictive language model that has zero empathy, remorse, or context, that makes decisions without any respect or understanding of consequence, might actually take over their jobs?
@awooo@Ironraptor@eniko of all the jobs a current-gen LLM could replace in modern society, CEO is probably the most practical. "Guess at trend lines with 0 empathy" is a decent approximation of what ChatGPT/etc does right now.
Save hundreds of millions in CEO comp, doesn't put a single worker out of a job, and no worry about copyright since CEOs don't create anything to begin with.
@djdesign@awooo@Ironraptor in my experience chatgpt's output displays more empathy and morality (even if it's just parroting words) than any CEO can muster
@eniko@awooo@Ironraptor sure but it's not FEELING any. And if "pretending to be devastated by the 1000 layoffs you just signed" is a job requirement, that makes ChatGPT a BETTER candidate. At least its impression of humanity is somewhat convincing.
@eniko Not necessarily sentience but whether it can destroy humanity with any realistic threat honestly depends on what tasks AI is entrusted with. And I know that some people sure as hell are willing to hand over control to AI with no question.
