I honestly don’t get the point of half of these nomad visas. If someone has a remote job, it’s of absolutely no consequence whether they work while visiting a country. They’re basically taking money from another country and injecting it into the local economy. If anything you should want people to be working on tourist visa, not banning it only to make them apply for some goofy ass visa just to have to leave after 6 months anyway.

@malwaretech it’s about taxes. Just about every jurisdiction has an employer-paid employment tax. If you are working and they don’t know it, they can’t collect the tax
@deepthoughts10@malwaretech for a long term visa it makes sense, but expecting someone to pay taxes in a country they’re only staying in for 6 months is wild. Not like I’m going to br getting a state pension after 7 months.
@deepthoughts10@malwaretech pretty sure the taxes on all of the consumption that the nomads are doing is worth a whole lot more than payroll taxes, let alone the general economic stimulus of that consumption.
@negative12dollarbill@womble@deepthoughts10@malwaretech When you go to a country for short term you bring money into the country from outside (good for economy), pay sales tax (good for economy) and aren’t eligible for social benefits like pension, sometimes healthcare, etc (good for economy). Expecting someone to pay income tax when they won’t be there long enough to utilize any of the social benefits that taxes pay for is just greedy imo
@deepthoughts10@malwaretech Sure, but as a tourist you’re only taking advantage of the extremely small subset of social services afforded to tourists, and the government still gets taxes on your spending and on the incomes of the other jobs that exist to take care of you.
if tourists cost more than they contributed to the local economy, countries wouldn’t be trying so hard to attract them.
@malwaretech It's ridiculous.... You need to earn twice as much as the gross national income (so ~ 66K USD) but you can stay up 2 years (1 year + 1 year of extension) and freelancers are allowed.
But the thing that obviously doesn't help, you already need to have a Korean address to apply 😂
