Mining ⚒️ just the top 10 most cost-effective ☄️- that is, those that are both closest to and greatest in value 💰 - would produce a profit of around US$1.5 trillion https://hir.harvard.edu/economics-of-the-stars

@spaceflight It would be swell if we could mine some of the rarer elements without exploiting the global south, too.

@claudiacaesaris it wouldn't be "global" at all 🪐

The ☄️ Redirect Mission was intended to develop a to visit a large and collect a multi-ton boulder ⛰️ from its surface. It would then redirect the boulder into orbit around the 🌙, where 👨‍🚀 would have explored it and returned to with samples. Directive 1, issued 📆 Dec. 11, 2017*, ended the mission. But many of the central in development for that mission, such as ☀️⚡ , will continue https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/missions/asteroid-redirect-robotic-mission-arrm

@spaceflight others have highlighted one way in which this may not work: finding and adding a gigantic amount of thing X to the market is very likely to crash the price of thing X making it unsustainable to go and fetch it. Am not an economist, but that sounds right?

@AlexMorin if you're the first, it will certainly be profitable. You won't destroy your own market prices, or would you ? 🤔
