"We give a pass on his full-throated neo-Nazism because of how brilliant he is" sure is looking like an even stupider opinion than it already was.

GrimmReality,
@GrimmReality@beige.party avatar

The CEO of Papa John's said a bunch of racist shit and the company's board 86ed him, not because he was an asshole, which they already knew, but because he got caught on tape being an asshole. Elon Musk spent a fucking year and a half publicly befriending and validating every Nazi cunt on his shitty website, capped by publicly embracing not only a well-known beshitted white supremacist conspiracy theory as typed on that website by an open neo-Nazi but also emphasizing that humanistic Jewish people and organizations working to end xenophobia were, in fact, hastening the Great Replacement, and not one capitalist, underling or director of any of his companies said anything close to "This is problematic," and Dave Fucking Chappelle invited him on stage to get booed roundly by thousands of people all at once, and NOBODY in all that rarified air replete with rich pricks could be bothered to say "Maybe this dumb, sociopathic piece of shit is not good for our brand."

Post-Trump rich people have evolved their PR platform to fully publicly endorse the notion of ubermenschen born unaccountable to the lowly pleb scum. Elon Musk gets a universal pass on being an open and explicit fucking Nazi because he owns a useful tool to help rebrand Nazism as "freedom" and thereby forward their long-running dream of destroying liberal democracy so they don't have to pay a 37% tax rate versus 32% or whatever.

passenger,

@GrimmReality

I get what you're saying but I interpret it a little differently. The CEO of Papa John's got fired because he was a liability to the investors. He isn't a hyperwealthy guy, he's a guy who has to work for a living making money for the hyperwealthy guys.

Musk, by contrast, is a hyperwealthy guy. He isn't anybody's employee.

IMHO this is a story about what the investor class can get away with (everything) compared to what the manager class can get away with (a lot until you start being a liability to the investor class.)

I'm no fan of Papa John Schnatter, dude created the Spaghettios of pizza and is straight garbage and I hope he dies in a cardboard box under a bridge, but he has to be looking at Elon Musk and saying "Holy FUCK, how does THIS dumbfuck doughy ponce, whom I agree with in every way, STILL have a job?"

"There is a complex and, perhaps, benign nuance to Elon Musk's open and unabashed Nazism."

  • The New York Times' editorial page, probably

Maybe there is no nuance to dumb shitty fucking demonstrably malevolent people being dumb, shitty and fucking demonstrably malevolent. Maybe the actual conversation should be how we might make a society wherein those people don't have power to make everyone else's lives exactly as horrible as they want them to be to effect their gray joyless Utopia For Dicks.

As an aside, Ford played with the idea of using stainless steel body panels as far back as 1936, where they produced 11 sedans in bare SS in conjunction with Allegheny Ludlum Steel.

They later on produce a couple of thunderbirds and Lincoln Continentals.

Some of them were up for auction a few years ago.

Ultimately, they decided that the very high additional cost wouldn't find a market.

@GrimmReality

I use stainless steel industrial junction boxes for severe locations. They're just bare metal with no clearcoat. And they will discolour over time, getting sort of a chalky or milky look to them.
If there's any sort of iron particles (from welding shops, or railyards etc) that settle on them, they'll get rust spots.

The condition of the SS panels was a complaint on the Deloreans too. The outside wasn't nearly as maintenance free as owners were led to believe.

@GrimmReality

A good amount of people just absolutely refuse to believe that a rich person could be stupid. Even those that don't like them will make excuses.
