I basically haven't purchased any shirts since pre-pandamic and have discovered most of my vaguely smart clothes are falling to pieces.
What's your go-to shop for quality schmutter?
(No, I can't repair them. Yes I know how to use a search engine. No, I don't want to learn how to make my own. Yes, I do wear something other than t-shirts. No, I don't want a jokey answer. Yes, I am grumpy this morning.)
@Edent Not in the UK, but I've been happy with "Son of a Tailor". EU-based, and while I've only purchased their t-shirts and polo shirts, they do offer button-up shirts as well.
@Edent TM Lewin is still trading online. Otherwise M&S or Tyrwhitts for 'every day' stuff. An 'unrecommendation' for Thomas Pink which never seemed to last / wear well enough to justify the price.
Can you share any good recommendations at the end of this? It's a problem I'll need to address shortly too.
@Edent I only occasionally buy a shirt, but when I do, I usually search vinted.co.uk for "pierre cardin" or "charles tyrwhitt" and pick up an as-new bargain.
@Edent Debenhams, sadly, and then they went away. :(
(I know they still exist online.)
My last few shirts I liked were from M&S, who seem ok, and Shaw’s the department store.
For more casual shirts (I don’t wear t-shirts, so I need lots), Tu from Sainsbury’s are surprisingly good! I’ve got about nine shirts from them.
@CatherineFlick@Edent oh, ok so I see they closed their stores in 2020, then had some kind of relaunch - whether they again have physical stores I'm not sure?
@Edent I'm not a bloke in the UK, but my husband was, and he would get his shirts from T. M. Lewin. They were always that bit nicer than the equivalent from M&S etc.
@sarajw@Edent I get (or should I say my wife gets) mine from there, mainly because I like to wear cufflinks and finding shirts with double cuffs is getting harder.
@Edent For casual or run of the mill shirts, and where you know your size, M&S. By far and away the best quality of all the high street / online places, and not really that much more expensive.
If you want a particular fancy shirt (e.g. for a tux) or in-person help picking something, then Slaters is best.
