I like this article, especially “Lesson 3” on the list of misconceptions, that Donald Trump has “electoral magic.”
Nikki Haley (and no, I don’t support her) just got 39% of the vote in South Carolina against the person who is supposedly in full control of the GOP. He will get the nomination but he is weak. Some of those 39% in the general will not be with him.

This map of the counties that went for Trump versus where Nikkki managed to get a majority of the votes demonstrates how important it is for everyone that cares about climate, democracy, human rights, etc. has got to start supporting Democrats.
She won the college towns. He won among the uneducated. There are more Americans without college education in the USA than there are educated people so every one of our votes is crucial to stop the populist fascism!
@GreenFire Trump won the general in SC in 2016 by 14% over Hillary Clinton, and by 12% over Biden in 2020. If the 2024 primary results are any indication, Trump is in trouble with Republican voters he has alienated with his anti-democracy rhetoric. Women, minorities, and college-educated citizens are disgusted.
With his control of the GOP party apparatus, Fox News and right wing media, and his status as the previous incumbent, his showing is bad.

I so hope that the orange chump is the GOP's nominee because he helps to make it crystal clear how dangerous voting for Republicans can be which is why I also worry that too many people will relax and not work hard enough to get more Democrats elected if NiKKKi ends up at the top of their ticket because of some kind of court action or something along those lines.
@GreenFire She won’t get there but it’s telling to me that if you add up all of the S.C. primary numbers, in total of both party primaries, Trump got 451,905 and other people collectively got 435,374.
As I said to someone else earlier, voting is a tool to get you where you want to go. Apathy at this time would be deadly. Whoever wants to move forward on climate issues, women’s rights, democracy itself, and a whole host of other progressive issues will be getting out the vote for Biden and Dems.
@TonyStark the 39% part is very important and unfortunately Americans don't understand math or history.
We functionally have two incumbents (from a party standpoint) that are "inevitable". Yet, only one candidate has more than a third of his own party showing up to vote against him.
Trump loses without Comey in 2016. With few exceptions Republicans have underperformed expectations every year since and in most states.

The thing T**** has more in his favor this time is the possible effect of changes in voting laws in several states, like Georgia.
What's crucial to remember though is that will benefit ANY GOP candidate. This would include the unlikely scenario where Trump is NOT the nominee and they certain scenarios down ballot that will determine who controls state courts, state houses (or super majority vs majority), school boards and governor's mansions.

Every opportunity that can be displayed showing where Orange Man is weak and vulnerable is a golden opportunity that should not be missed.
He is an infinite loser whose only upside streak has been as a grifting conman. He isn't worth the level of adoration they give him and laughing and showing them how pathetic he really is, should help. I hope...
