alissaazar,

He was fully engulfed in flames and this cops first instinct was to shoot him. Incredible and horrifying summation of how the police operate.

KevinCarson1,

@alissaazar That's SOP when they're called for a wellness check

whatzaname,

@alissaazar i hope that cop regrets that move so hard he leaves copdom and reevaluates his entire approach to being a human.

@alissaazar as ridiculous as it may seem to you, it was handled correctly as a terrorist attack outside an embassy

it is a common tactic - that police are trained for - to cause an initial disturbance to draw people in & then set off a larger bomb

the officer knew there were other people in the area that would be bringing fire extinguishers, and correctly focused on his potentially important task

it looks stupid to you because you know the full story from the comfort of your computer

HeavenlyPossum,

@codebyjeff @alissaazar

When has anyone ever done anything like that—cause an “initial disturbance” by self-harm like self-immolation—ever anywhere?

codebyjeff,
@codebyjeff@hachyderm.io avatar

@alissaazar the man was on fire, and was still able to remain standing and shout "Free Palestine" (?) four times

That was plenty of time to push a button on a vest, for all the officer knew

This officer was guarding one of the most heavily targeted embassies in the world. this isn't some small town yokel cop with an itchy trigger finger. He was trained to do exactly what he did

WetFish,

@codebyjeff @alissaazar

I'm not sure how professional it is to shoot at potential explosives, especially while they are on fire

codebyjeff,
@codebyjeff@hachyderm.io avatar

@WetFish you shoot the person in the head

think about what you said for a moment...don't shoot potential explosives that someone is trying to blow up, because...

you might blow them up?

HeavenlyPossum,

@WetFish @codebyjeff

Security personnel are trained to aim for center mass, because shooting people in the head is ridiculously inefficient at stopping actual threats.

Why are you pretending to know things

codebyjeff,
@codebyjeff@hachyderm.io avatar

@HeavenlyPossum

if you're standing 10 feet away & think he might be wearing an explosive vest,

I think you'd aim higher

Your second question: No one thought to smuggle explosives onto an airplane in their shoe... until someone did

That's not what a security person is thinking about at the time

HeavenlyPossum,

@codebyjeff

No

and

Your assertion was that a) he could have been a distraction and b) that “distractions” like this are common at embassies which, again

No

ankostis,

@alissaazar in the blurred video the cops act, and insistence, it seems even more absurd: https://x.com/taliaotg/status/1761944158636331247?s=20

prolrage,

@ankostis @alissaazar another proof that cops are the most useless force on the planet .

ankostis,

@prolrage @alissaazar media emplyees are also useless.
While Aaron Bushnell's sacrifice reverberated independent social, corporate media barely mentioned it.

alissaazar,
weyoun6,

@alissaazar reminds me of Fouad Kaady, who was shot by police after having been burned in 2005.

violetmadder,

@alissaazar

Does BEING ON FIRE count as resisting arrest, d'ya think?
