@popcornreel Pretty much nailed it.

If this had been a case of a Presidential candidate being born in Africa being disqualified by Alabama from appearing on the ballot I would bet we'd have had a very different ruling. Would've been tripping over their robes to show deference to states rights.

It's actually consistent if you look at it this way:

States' rights are more important in this instance than preventing someone from trying to overthrow the federal government.
