I mean the easiest way to accomplish your intent of bringing it to his attention without spreading it as a possibly unfounded fear is to make it an unlisted, private, or direct post.

You basically framed it as a letter publicly calling him out for something (which hasn't actually been done or even hinted at—quite the opposite) as if for public accountability, which doesn't really fit your actual intention of just wanting to make your opinion known to him.

That's how I read it at least. The structure of "Dear [name]" followed by your signature at the bottom makes it read like a public letter, which is usually used to call people out for doing something wrong.

I've also noticed (though this is something you may or may not have seen yourself—no shame if you haven't) that here on Mastodon/Fedi people are very eager to spread anything promoting the ideals of the platform or any potential warnings of danger it could be in, which could turn even a relatively benign post into something that gets thrown out of proportion.
I don't think (and definitely don't hope) Eugen would sell out anytime soon, but I did see that sentiment being echoed by... Chris Trottier, and a couple of folks that are fairly well-known instance admins or ppl of importance
Worst case scenario there are still stuff like Akkoma and Misskey so 😂
