Ugh. Most depressing Dutch commute ride in ages 😬

Roughly 80% of other cyclists on e-bikes, including many kids as young as ten. So many on those awful fat bikes 🙁

One dude passed me on an s-pedelec doing 40km/h, without legally required plates & helmet 😠

Souped-up moped passed me aggressively doing 80km/h+ on the bike path, also illegal 😡

Finally, massive black Humvee accelerated & illegal crossed multiple lanes at a roundabout so he could cut me off 🤬

Some days, honestly … 🤷‍♂️

@markmccaughrean
when is a vehicle insurance label required on it ? What velocity ? in germany it's 25 kmh

@enigma Similar, I think. Regular e-bikes are just bikes up to 25km/h, but s-pedelecs are capable of 45km/h & require licence plates & helmets. Not sure about insurance, but possibly.

yes, I rather thought about a plate on back side. Because if you feel pushed or even cut off again, you try to catch the sign on that plate. 😎👮‍♂️

@enigma Would be good, except the plates are very small, & the guy doing 40km/h was doing so illegally, because he had no plates.

Problem with s-pedelecs is that they look very similar to many regular e-bikes, so they're easily "hidden in plain sight".

@markmccaughrean
guess your ride was on streets that are not in the big city centers. Maybe even offside a city. Bremen is not too big. But devided by the river there are really dense traffic bottlenecks and many narrow road works even on bigger bridges. The pedelecs drivers are still driving me mad by driving madly keeping their speed. 😡

@enigma No, was on a separate wide bike+moped path parallel to a country road – very standard in NL.

S-pedelecs are allowed on them outside towns, as are mopeds, but above a certain class, they’re obliged to ride on the roads with cars in towns, I believe, at least if there is no combined bike+moped path, just bike only. https://swov.nl/en/fact/pedelecs-2-what-rules-apply-pedelecs-and-speed-pedelecs#:~:text=A%20speed%20pedelec%20rider%20must,must%20have%20third%20party%20insurance.
