Your annual reminder, if you're in the UK, not to watch the Grand National horse race, not to bet on it, not to take part in an office sweepstake as "a bit of fun". It's cruel. 4 horses died during the Aintree meet last year, and 4 the year before.

@grb090423 Same goes for greyhound racing. Shockingly the Oxford dog track, which closed in 2012, reopened in 2022. People think it's "fun" for a work outing.

@Kaetchi @grb090423 I was taken to the Grand National as a child, aged 9 or 10. My family were all racing fans, no-one thought anything of it - though they were all animal lovers and my mum would be very upset if a horse got injured. But they just didn't question it. ☹️
