question marks have a purpose, indicate a question. periods indicate the end of a sentence. exclamation points are very weird in this context; a specific punctuation mark to signify a specific emotional response? why not other weird punctuation for other emotions?

I read somewhere that using periods in a chat makes you seem insencere. (Or a study found out that is how people perceive it)
Exclamation marks on the other hand are received positively (I forget which way exactly), at least as long as it's a reasonable amount.
I'd say considering how common emoji are these days, the exclamation mark was way ahead of it's time.
@spinning_bird@rootcompute@buru5 this is interesting.. Yeah, its weird - the way things look and feel when read, even on here- it does have a whole different feel if you leave a period off the end of a post.
