Playing it makes me feel so bad when enemies fall on the ground and try to get up again, and I have to shoot them while they're helpless on the ground. (Can't force them to surrender, unfortunately.) Same for when I'm in the mech and they scramble to get away.

Even after years of killing pixel soldiers, I still sometimes feel bad for them. Hmm...

Not putting a save point anywhere in the first 50 minute section of Nier: Automata and making you repeat the whole thing if you die vs the boss at the end is certainly an interesting design decision 😡 I nearly put the game down right there

Not sure I've got the motivation to carry on playing a game that disrespectful of the players time

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds @COMPU73E It's cool how the game seamlessly flows between vertical scrolling shmup, top-down shooter and so on.
Not sure if later sections repeat that, from what I've seen it's pretty much 3rd person hack & slash after the opening?
So maybe the devs wanted to make sure many people experience these cool transitions more than once. :P

Smaller/underground artists who add their stuff to Spotify but not Bandcamp or Faircamp or anywhere that doesn't just stream.

Stop doin that

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@spytfyre @jake4480 As far as I know there's no high barrier to uploading on Spotify.

But I suppose from a financial perspective there's no point unless it's a major artist.

Hrm.
I've avoided Nier: Automata because of the fanbase/fanart, but I just got curious and actually looked up a short video and... it kind of looks like what I wish Bayonetta 3 had been.

Anyone have any experience with it? How open is this? Hub based? JRPG styled? Level based with larger stages?

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@Gwendolyn @NaClKnight 2Bs design is neat, EXCEPT for how the dress invites panty shots all the time. It's irritating.

I don't know what it is about those that annoys me so much. Perhaps because how they're always made to look incidental, but it's so apparent they're very deliberate.

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@NaClKnight @Gwendolyn I think Gwendolyn said it very well, the fourth wall break combined with the 😏 face you can see on the devs face.

It would be annoying as hell having to wear something like that and be careful about indecent exposure all the time, so maybe trying to identify with the character, some of that annoyance transfers over. In a way, if 2B only wore underwear it would be less annoying 😂

I was going through some old files the other day and rediscovered a peculiar video that I thought had been lost. Now I can’t for the life of me find it again and starting to seriously believe my mind made something up?!

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@jake4480 just some private video.
I combed through the phone it had to be filmed with, but nothing. I seem to recall finding it in a cloud storage when sorting for larger files, but nothing there either. It’s baffling.

We need to bring back the era of unabashedly crude parody software

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@rootcompute a while ago a saw a poll asking which people thought was the last good Windows version. Of course a lot of people said 98 or even later.
Idk was 98 perceived as so bad when it came out, or are is the parody just for fun?

The greatest MMORPGs blind you to the fact that they are stealing your time and money via tedious gameplay mechanics by making you feel totally immersed in a world that's better than real life.

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@rootcompute @buru5 I don’t necessarily disagree, but at the same time I don’t understand so many people’s obsession with owning things.

We always used to pay for concerts or to see movies at the cinema without owning anything afterwards. What’s so bad about paying to stream some movies or play an online game without gaining ownership over anything?

I'd argue that the 'Verified' system was already a bit of a mess.

It should mean that the game runs, and runs to a pretty solid level on Deck.

It doesn't mean that at all. It's an absolutely horrible way to work out if your can play a game and at this point I've stopped using it as a guide. ProtomDB or @steamdeckhq for me.

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@danielholt @steamdeckhq it often asks me after playing whether I think a game deserves to be verified. I suppose if enough people say no to that a game will lose the verified status. Unlesssss of course so many people click verified despite all the bugs. Might be that they think bugs and crashes are to be expected?

@Badolwen @buru5 but it’s a bit unfair to people who have straight white teeth because nature gave it to them

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@buru5 @Badolwen I’ve never seen teeth like in a toothpaste commercial in real life, do they exist?

Once I met a guy whose teeth looked kind of “shaved off” into a straight line. And also a thin nose that looked a bit fake… but you never know right? 🫢
Incidentally though, he had a greedy “let’s make some businezzzz!” attitude. Like a wannabe Patrick Bateman.

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@Badolwen @jake4480 @buru5 There are whitening toothpastes, but afaik they work by rubbing down the outer layer of the teeth. It can have detrimental effect on tooth health, and I'm not sure if it'll have a guaranteed effect.

I see nothing wrong with doing something against the yellow color if you don't like it. It's not like you have to go overboard and make it unnaturally white.

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@jake4480 @Badolwen @buru5 I don't think either of your teeth look yellow. (not from your other photos at least, Jake)

I read somewhere that using periods in a chat makes you seem insencere. (Or a study found out that is how people perceive it)

Exclamation marks on the other hand are received positively (I forget which way exactly), at least as long as it's a reasonable amount.

I'd say considering how common emoji are these days, the exclamation mark was way ahead of it's time.

I started Dark Souls 3, but it didn't feel fun to me for some reason. I switched to Yakuza: Like a Dragon instead, a game I've played earlier but abandoned half way through. I don't know why I did that. The game really seems like a blast this time around too. Also the cinematic bits at the beginning are loooonng.

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@jake4480 "It would be odd to say that time does not change." uh, what? 😂

But on the whole I'm ready to believe that time the way we experience it has nothing to do with what it actually is. Just like concepts such as "up" and "down" that are so integral to our perception. Except with up/down it's easy to see (from space) that it's an illusion.

I played one of this game’s endless march of pre-release versions last year on . It provided some of the finest hours of gaming I’ve ever experienced, stopped dead by one of the absolute worst single moments.

I hope they’ve tuned that balance a little better! (Though honestly that mostly means “make non-permadeath the first option on the new-game screen, and rename the options to suggest it’s the best starting place”)
https://mastodon.social/@gamingonlinux/112280874814360993

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@akahn @jmac it’s been a while since I’ve played it, but always starting in the same town and going through the same motions after dying was tedious, so I didn’t make very many attempts. But I read there’s an “rpg mode“ now without permadeath?

When playing a shooter on with trackpad, I saw a suggestion to use the left trigger for firing.
It makes a lot of sense, not only considering the SDs size and the strain it puts on thumb + index finger to have to stretch so far, but also in regards to precise movement of the thumb.

It makes me wonder why not all games have the trigger on the left. Seems like there could be merit even when aiming with the stick. (At which I'm awful anyhow.)

was at an "adult function" and video games came up and it's always so awkward. after this guy went on about Helldivers 2 and Palworld, he asked me: "what do you play?" and i was all, like, "uhh ... hmmm .. ermm..." and he was eyeing me very curiously and then i said: "uh well actually i don't play video games" and made some excuse to leave the area.

spinning_bird,
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@jake4480 @buru5 you don’t have to lead with Phantasy Star Online 😂 for example, the FF7 remakes are something a “modern gamer” will likely know, so it’s a good way to bring the ps1 original into the mix.

I for one would be delighted to meet someone who’s enthusiastic about Helldivers, even though I haven’t played it myself.

Fantastic 2D fighting game from the makers of Melty Blood.
So when I started noticing that it was going out of stock at a bunch of shops and saw it on sale for €37 on PS5, I had to double dip, despite not being able to play this version until the end of the year.

I just don't want to risk it.

This is UNDERNIGHT IN-BIRTH II [Sys:Celes] on PlayStation 5

spinning_bird, (edited )
@spinning_bird@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive my guess with in-birth is that it’s a word play with “inverse”. Because written in katakana, both would be インバース. Not that this makes much more sense as a whole. 🥹

Ps: looked it up and the spell it as インヴァース, so it’s not that either. 🤷‍♀️
