The acute causes of the pain in life currently are material insecurity and high costs of living especially rent
The deepest causes are capitalism, that the means of production, how we produce and distribute what we need to survive is privately owned and run for profit, a stable existence is made scarce to force most people into spending away their lives working jobs they wouldn't otherwise do, a meaningful existence seems scarcer still
