@cstross Unfortunately, the Jewish faculty that the news is covering are the ones (from what I can tell, a small minority) who are complaining about the demonstrations - like Shai Davidai, a Columbia prof and IDF veteran who posted a video on X of "threatening" behavior by demonstrators, showing Muslims praying. He's since been barred from campus for trying to organize his own unauthorized demonstration.
Mainstream press coverage of the faculty union's denunciation of the administration: nil.
@cstross also, German antifascists. A cursory survey of Antifa stickers in Köln and Hamburg this weekend suggests that they’re so stridently pro-Israel as to make Reaganite Evangelicals look like The Squad by comparison.
@acb It's different in Germany, though. I wouldn't exactly call Greg Abbot "antifa". (Germany got de-nazification, at least in the west: the USA never did.)
@acb@cstross Germany is in a bit of a weird headspace. Instead of learning "We should never again enact or support genocide against anyone", the lesson they have internalized is "We must never, ever, EVER criticize or fail to support Israel."

Which would not normally be a problem except that Israel has been captured from within by fascist-adjacent apartheid settlers (it was always an expression of pre-WW1 European ethno-nationalism, but it didn't have to end up like this: a compromise outcome—something more like Lebanon—might have been possible, prior to the Nakba. Which the extremists who led it intended to put such a one state solution permanently beyond reach.)
