@dansup As this made the on boarding of Threads made so good, don't forget the "Follow if they join" button there.
If I sign up as the first person and see 200 Mastodon "friends" that aren't there yet, I want to "follow" them. I don't want 200 notifications with »Person joined, follow?«. They should be followed by joining already, if I chose so.
So please "copy the homework" completely or even improve it a bit.
@dansup that's pretty unique, even in the Fediverse! Which gives your contacts outside of Loops the choice to follow this type of content from you or not.
@amy You will have the option to disable this, it will be enabled by default for obvious reasons, however there will be a grace period of a few hours after you first create your account to disable this so nobody else is notified!
I hope that answers your question, and if you have any feedback or advice, don't hesitate. I'm trying to get this right, but I'm only one guy and I could use all the feedback I can get 😁
@dansup I see. I'm skeptical that this emulation of corporate dark patterns is at all worthwhile, but I will think more and return if I have any detailed thoughts for you.
@amy I mean, its not really emulating dark patterns since this isn't a "Share Contacts" modal on the main feed, you need to actively navigate to Settings -> Connect Mastodon then Connect your account by logging in.
If you don't do these steps, you won't be found or recommended friends, since you never connected.
Would you agree it's not the same as opting to share your Contacts with Facebook? Most Mastodon accounts are public, so are the following collections, I don't think its a dark pattern
