it bothers me when people give physical meaning to the boundaries of the observable universe, like, that's how wide the universe is, or it's different beyond those bounds. we can't know, but a random chunk centered on earth probably isn't meaningful. it seems more likely to be "tiled" infinitely in all directions, which is comforting in a weird way.

What I haven't quite wrapped my head around is that the distance to the edge of the observable universe is 46.5 billion light-years but the universe is only 13.8 billion years old

Naively I through the edge of the observable universe would be 13.8 billion light years away

But I guess that does not take into account the expansion of the universe
