@psychicparrot42 was a bit gutted when I took boy to see anniversary of Return of the Jedi and it had all the extra crap in it. Original version was way better.

@psychicparrot42 @puttycad I lost my VHS set from just before the prequels were released in a house move ... it had all the original cuts :/

There are the Despecialized Editions, if you know where to look.

@psychicparrot42 others have said, but I'll also strongly recommend seeking out the Project 4k fan restorations. They just released Empire a couple months ago (and there'll be another version some time in the future made from higher quality prints. Their ANH and RotJ restorations have been out for a few years).

I didn't know until recently that Lucas was actually a board member of Disney, so an official release is unlikely until he isn't.

@psychicparrot42 I remember sitting in the theater stunned that they had ripped out the band scene in Jawa's ship. Just dreadful.

I wondered for a while why it seems worse now with even though it had newer effects after the remaster and I think the difference is that it had the peak of practical effects replaced with a relatively early generation of digital effects, a field which has probably not yet peaked even today.

@psychicparrot42 there's a little known project to scan all the original theatrical releases.
