so who makes a decent laptop these days? Looking for something that can run lightsynth so if I go out to do any shows with it I don't have to take my dev rig. Light and convenient would be good, and not stupid expensive (yes I know not all these things may be true all together)...

@llamasoft_ox I’d probably look at an MSI cos the skinny ones arent mental money and you can spec a decent gpu in them. They’re light and the build quality is good. They get a bit hot under load but the synth would run fine on them IMO. Had one in .fi and it was a proper workhorse.

@nivrig you can configure it with DDR5, I went for DDR4. Ram's not really a bottleneck for my uses.

Gah, EQS is so convenient but just slightly too inflexible in that the scoring options it allows you to use are far too limited (you get about 5 curve options, that's it - and 3 of them are linear). Sadly the scoring curves are baked in via an enum as well. So annoying.

I could just use it as a generator for pass/fail positions and then score everything in SUSS, but when you have a lot of points that's a bunch of data I'd prefer not to copy. I'm not sure I have a choice though

    New paranoia:

    We had a car drive itself into a tree. On its own. It isn't even an electric. Though I guess it wanted to be?

    The fucking starter shorted out somehow, and the STARTER DROVE THE ENTIRE ENGINE. DESPITE THE PARKING BRAKE BEING ON.

    I've never even heard of this failure mode. WTF.

    @glassbottommeg was it in gear? The starter turns the engine over, and I always park my car with it in gear (normally opposite to the gradient it’s on), so I would guess if the starter fired it’d have to move the car forward cos the clutch isn’t in… and the gear is engaged… but… I’ve never tried it cos I jump in, press the clutch, turn it over and drive off. I dunno what an automatic does? Do they leave it in neutral?

    I wonder if we'll see a noticeable hiccup in indie games over the next few years, and not just because of funding drying up.

    I've spent the last like, 2 years? of on two projects now, but REALLY a lot of this was just learning a new engine cus Unity fell apart.

    Clearly we'll also see a hiccup because funding etc, and the two would blend together. But still. I really wonder how much of it will be all of us retraining ourselves in realtime and that adding a few years to our timelines.

    @glassbottommeg definitely a thing. I spent the first two/three years of Maenhîr retraining. Just glad I jumped early, it put me in a decent place to pivot to 2umo when the cash ran out.

    The real test (for me) is, will a 2025 release keep me going…
