taber, One of my very favorite things is having a nice meal on my own, and WaPo food critic Tom Sietsema gave a perfect reply that’s nearly just what I say to people who want to do this but feel nervous and learned myself from serving happy solo diners: be in good spirits and your energy will be matched. And know if you haven’t waited tables that a pleasant solo diner is a treat to serve - you only have to make one person happy, and they aren’t trying to impress anyone, it’s perfect :)
