@tiffanycli it’s got to happen eventually. When I think of “the twenties”, I think of flappers, the Charleston, suffragettes, art deco and the Great Depression. But no, that’s now.
And when people say “at the turn of the century”, I still think of 1900/1901. But the turn of the century was 2000/2001 - twenty three years ago
@scottearle@tiffanycli the century is our, they can have the millenium, if only they could please use it: "at the turn of the millenium" is 1900->2000, "at the turn of the century" is 1800->1900 😤
@micke@tiffanycli “well actually” … since years start at 1 (there is no year zero), make that 1901-2000 or 1801-1900 (the 21st century started on 2001-01-01)
@scottearle@tiffanycli I think it's still fair to use "turn of the century" to refer to 1900, but only because this is an exceptional case where 2000 got the much better title "turn of the millennium".
