@vantablack even as a cishet man, living in a country where bears are not native I'd rather deal with a bear (as if there was one loose, it would have escaped the zoo/wildlife park and a whole bunch of people would be searching for it).
My work colleague is from Romania and he says they sometimes get bears in the woods or even the village his parents are in but they rarely attack anybody - in Europe is equally common that folk hurt themselves because they fall down mountains/ravines due to freaking out and running without thinking where they are going even when the bear is hundreds of metres away (they don't have very good eyesight)
