It’s so shocking to me how we’re letting extremely wealthy people kill the future.

@StillIRise1963 As so many abuse victims have done before, we've collapsed our judgements into "Is this good or bad for my abuser?" and shrunk our perspective accordingly.

@StillIRise1963 I’ve been thinking a lot about the flood recently. We live in another age of robber barons and their disasters https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnstown_Flood

@Lyle Rich people ruin lives is my takeaway from this.

@StillIRise1963

Shocking to see them killing themselves and their offspring along with it.

Greed and envy seem, like compound interest, to grow only faster with accumulation.

@f800gecko I don’t even know how to think about them and their offspring. How could people care so little about their own kids. My brain can’t go there.

@StillIRise1963 Ironically, a measure of just how much pain people can tolerate. The wealthy have always tested our societal pain threshold. How long before they finally hit it … this time?

StillIRise1963,
@StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

@MattMerk I wish we’d get there sooner than later.

MattMerk,
@MattMerk@mastodon.social avatar

@StillIRise1963 For sure. Wishing we all had a lower pain threshold seems counterintuitive, but I really think it would help.

StillIRise1963,
@StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

@MattMerk Same. It would also suggest some sort of basic sanity.

@StillIRise1963 I think you really hit on something there. We have all been force-fed this myth of the toughest position is to bear any pain without crying (at least for boys), good people just grin and bear it, we must always be positive, or we're a "bummer." The saner thing would be simply saying the truth when things hurt. The even more sane thing would be to listen to people in pain. This rugged individualism thing needs to fade away.

@MattMerk 100%. Grin and bear it is the language of the oppressor. Complain, scream and change it is what we need to do.
