@StillIRise1963 I vote in every election, primary and general, every year.
I see less of a point in voting when the amount of money spent per year on elections rises exponentially and more campaign promises are sidelined by lobbying than are fulfilled.
We need to hold local, state, and federal officials’ feet to the fire and demand all money be taken out of campaigning. They should also be compensated the minimum wages and benefits that are required by law. No more healthcare for life. No more 6-figure salaries. You want to serve the public? Be part of it by receiving the same compensation that you guarantee for everyone.
I guess what I’m saying is, the dystopia is already here and we’ve been voting for it.
@StillIRise1963 I agree wholeheartedly; that was the final nail in the coffin. But it started long before that. Greedy union bosses in bed with the mafia led to government sanctioned union busting, which weakened our ability to collectively organize, paving the way for our love affair with trickle down economics. It’s such a long clusterfuck that I don’t think it can ever be undone. We’re nearing the point of needing to burn it all down and start over.
@mike Before you give up, you actually have to try. I can’t have this conversation anymore. I know how we got here because I was here to watch it. I only care about the steps we’re going to take. Nothing else.
@StillIRise1963 I’m not about giving up. Sorry if what I said led you to that conclusion. I continue to exercise my voting rights despite how futile it feels.
@mike Let’s use our energy to figure out what we can do besides voting. Voting is a key leg of the stool, but we need to do more. We need collective action.
@StillIRise1963
Well said. At this time in history, looking backwards isn't productive there will be time for that once the election is over. Stomp out the present forest fire and then worry about rebuilding. @mike
