Hey @cliffwade@beardedtechguy do you know what kind of self hosting you want to move all things tech to? Is it just the mastodon instance or all the other components like the blog too?
@cjerrington@cliffwade We have the blog and wiki hosted on DO. We would be opposed to host the mastodon instance there also. Just want to make sure we get the most bang for buck.

Yes, as Kyle stated, we aren't looking to move the blog, wiki or anything else. Just the instance itself so that we can have full control over it and do things like change max character limit of each post and other similar things.
DigitalOcean is where we have the blog and the wiki and it would certainly be nice to go with them for this too, but not necessary. Any good deals on pricing would be most welcomed.
On one hand, keeping with DigitalOcean would keep the bills in one place. I haven't had a hand in hosting a mastodon instance myself, but other applications.
Essentially, you'd need a VM to install the app portions to and the database.
Most of my knowledge now is in AWS, but estimating costs there can be complicated. I would suspect obtaining a backup of the database and installing the app portion on a new VM should hook all up in the end as well.
