Hey @cliffwade @beardedtechguy do you know what kind of self hosting you want to move all things tech to? Is it just the mastodon instance or all the other components like the blog too?

Anyone have anything to say (good or bad) about Porkbun as a registrar? https://porkbun.com

cjerrington,
@cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

@chris I recently moved my domain and a few others there. Costs are great for registration and DNS. Currently, I am not using their web hosting or other offerings. I've had to reach out to support for general questions and a small issue, and support was quick and effective.

I learned about porkbun from some others here on the fediverse, who also reccomended them.

Made the mistake to respond to a customer facing email. My role I don't always have to be customer facing, but the answers are in the email as well!!

The email literally has all the information they need and answers in it.

Hey tinkerers!

I have a git submodule that I am adding inside the repository of my website, but I want it to be ignored, except for its README.md.

I have tried two different approaches. In both cases I am able to exclude the git submodule, but I can’t find a way to include the README and use it as a regular template.

Option 1: using .eleventyignore

inputdir/submodule<br></br>!inputdir/submodule/README.md<br></br>

Option 2: using .eleventy.js

module.exports = function (eleventyConfig) {<br></br>  eleventyConfig.ignores.add('inputdir/submodule');<br></br>  eleventyConfig.ignores.add('inputdir/submodule/README.md'); // added it first to be sure<br></br>  eleventyConfig.ignores.delete('inputdir/submodule/README.md');<br></br>};<br></br>

Do you have any suggestions to fix this? The ignore section in Eleventy’s documentation is not helping much…

Thanks a lot!

@tommi @eleventy so you’re trying to only include the readme file from the git submodule?

Does the submodule needed in the rest of the build? I wonder if the readme.md is the only file needed, there’s is a unique way to clone a specific file instead of the whole repo.

cjerrington,
@cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

@tommi I wonder then if you can still ignore the folder, which will no be copied to your build, but then do a copypassthrough function for the readme file?

@hyde @adamsdesk I’ve known someone whose spent time repairing the main circuit and other part on their TV. Some of it was doable but also not meant for repairs either.

When they finally spent enough time and money on repair parts, a salesman told them to not use Sony either.

@joel do you know how the Miyoo compares to a RG353V Retro Video Handheld Game Console?

cjerrington,
@cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

@joel cool, thanks! I have seen the RG353 for a while and handing seen the Miyoo before. Looks promising and like the idea of the custom os as well!

Also for the price point the Miyoo seems to have some good features as well.

@jp @joel the vercel logs are decent. I’ve actually been able to get umami setup with vercel and their Postgress free tier offering. It was easy to setup and configure too. I could write something up if you’d like to look at it too.

My feed.xml has about 5gb of transferred data. It’s crazy!

cjerrington,
@cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

@jp @joel I’ve been thinking of offering a full feed and a limited one. That could be the difference.

Does have something equivalent to jekyll-import? I want to turn a csv file into posts quickly. suggestions?

cjerrington,
@cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

@adjb depending on your csv, could you convert it to json then use that as your data file: https://www.11ty.dev/docs/pages-from-data/

Custom data file formats might be something too: https://www.11ty.dev/docs/data-custom/

Not long ago I added a "Reply" link to the bottom of every post on my blog. It just links to the same contact page that can be found on the site header, but I'm surprised at how many more messages I've gotten since doing that. Could be a coincidence, but maybe not.

cjerrington,
@cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

@joel @jp I had a few since doing the 100 days to offload, but have not blogged much this year. I have a few drafts waved up.

It is interesting though what I would get replies to.

cjerrington,
@cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

@jp @joel that is interesting and unexpected. I’ve updated my rss feed with a reply via email recently. I’ll see if I get more emails.
