"how long? about an hour and a half" otherwise: "it's half past 3" or colloquially "it's half 3" (many languages say "half" to mean "half to" not "half past" which is arguably more correct, but confusing to me) Otherwise I think you say 'minutes' if: not reading in digital-clock style saying a time that isn't a multiple of 5 2/3
