"We should not in good conscience support or consume the art someone created if they are a piece of crap in reality. One of the reasons some of these horrible celebrities feel empowered to continue their deviant behavior is because they know they will continue to have supporters no matter what, and those supporters will continue to put money in their pockets.”

@StillIRise1963

Just think.

For every established, popular asshole out there like Diddy that you wouldn’t waste throwing an anchor to to help sink faster, there are 100 unknown and better artists that you should’ve been looking for anyway.

Never build your own image around famous people, because they will always, always let you so far down.

@StillIRise1963 There is nothing that can excuse this man's behaviour, but I wish the media had bothered with the wealthy sugar heir who punched his girlfriend out at some fancy restaurant bc he got mad that gay people were seated next to him, and she defended them.

justafrog,
@justafrog@mstdn.social avatar

@StillIRise1963 The people who want to keep giving him money because them liking songs is more important than the people he victimizes.

How shallow is that?

There are literally thousands of other musicians, who do not do this shit, who make similar music.

How hard is it really to just drop him off your playlists and find someone better to reward?

@StillIRise1963

I have never been able to separate the art from the artist and it has resulted a a severe shortage of things to watch or listen to. But I will put my money where my mouth is, and I will not fund or help PR wash abusers.

StillIRise1963,
@StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

@JoBlakely Same. I’ve had a lot of fights with people about this. Bad behavior turns me off. I don’t want to see you or hear you anymore. My patronizing your art equals support. I’m not supporting assholes. There’s plenty of other art on this planet. They’re just as disposable as we are.

Lazarou,

@StillIRise1963 exactly this, bad people must see consequences.

@StillIRise1963 That was absolutely terrifying to watch, holy hell. I cannot believe she had to endure that and I hope he is arrested.

    People should realize how great it feels to free yourself from scumbag artists and athletes. It was really tough, having been raised a football fan, to give up the NFL, but that was 15-20 years ago and I have never felt anything but relief. Every revolting scandal-- the racism, the rape, the treatment of CTE-- not my issue. Seeing how much better life was without the bullcrap made it easier to make right decisions later.

    It's tough at first, but you get the hang of it!

    StillIRise1963,
    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @MaryAustinBooks I’ve had the same experience. I grew up in a big football family. I was a huge college and pro fan. My dad played in HS, was really good. And, in one chapter of life, I was a cheerleader. But, once I understood the industry, I had to stop watching.

    MaryAustinBooks,
    @MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social avatar

    @StillIRise1963 My dad played in high school, my mom was a cheerleader, they were die hard fans of the NFL for decades and even they called it quits. They took a few more years than I did, but they are done.

    None of us ever turned our backs even when our team was garbage on the field, but if they're going to be garbage as people in that league (most especially in the front offices) they don't deserve our money or loyalty.

    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @MaryAustinBooks I’m with you 100%. The whole thing is painful to think about.

    @StillIRise1963 @MaryAustinBooks I was never into sportsball and only a part of my family are, but I really liked music and was a DJ for many years (particularly on the rave scene), and there are unfortunately too many artists and fellow DJ's who got nicked not just for recreational drugs (which I consider a non-crime) but genuinely nasty stuff like domestic violence and I've had to cut those out of my life..

    StillIRise1963,
    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @vfrmedia Any type of power seems to make people act like animals.☹️ @MaryAustinBooks

    @MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social avatar

    @vfrmedia @StillIRise1963 Good for both of you. It does hurt to face that ugly reality, but it's like ice skating. A few bumps and bruises early on and then you're able to do it.

    vfrmedia,
    @vfrmedia@social.tchncs.de avatar

    @MaryAustinBooks @StillIRise1963 the hardest part of it with the rave scene (as it was a partly underground subculture I was deeply involved in) was dealing both with the facts that even folk you considered friends or acquaintances were involved in abusive behaviour /and/ the realisation the cops/social services/health authorities had a point when they clamped down on the scene (as even partydrug use can lead to impulsive and unpleasant behaviour)

    @StillIRise1963 powerful people feel empowered because we idolize people with power. TFG said the quiet part out loud when he said he could shoot somebody and not lose voters” it’s not just him

    StillIRise1963,
    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @Danetteb Yep. People have to learn not to idolize anyone.

    otownKim,

    @StillIRise1963 I literally got nauseous watching the video of his abuse! I hope this fucker gets locked up soon!!!!

    StillIRise1963,
    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @otownKim He damn sure didn’t look like a stranger to abusing her.

    otownKim,

    @StillIRise1963 Agreed! Also didn't look like the first time either. Without money that POS would be in Jail!!

    IveyJanette,
    @IveyJanette@mastodon.social avatar

    @otownKim @StillIRise1963 And there's people in the Black community defending this fool! They're citing Chris Brown,R. Kelly and Bill Cosby,saying that Black men are being "screwed".

    StillIRise1963,
    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @IveyJanette They need to GTFOH with that shit. WOMEN COUNT TOO.
    @otownKim

    IveyJanette,
    @IveyJanette@mastodon.social avatar

    @StillIRise1963 @otownKim Eyewitness News had some self-described "activists" holding a presser blasting the legal system and how it's "punishing Black men" and blah blah blah. Bullshit..

    StillIRise1963,
    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @IveyJanette Hmmm. I think that’s misuse of a very real problem. @otownKim

    IveyJanette,

    @StillIRise1963 @otownKim Definitely. As if Black women are disposable.

    StillIRise1963,
    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @IveyJanette Exactly! Why doesn’t violence against us count? It should be some of the worst kind considering what we’ve been through, go through.
    @otownKim

    JimRI,

    @IveyJanette @StillIRise1963 @otownKim As an old white man, this is why I am in favor of dismantling the white supremacy/patriarchy that we currently have. POC especially WOC need to be in charge of everything imo.

    StillIRise1963,
    @StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

    @JimRI We’d do a better job. Sincerely.
