jerry,

What’s everyone up to this weekend?

riskymanag3ment,

@jerry in the woods with this beast. The cabin was 50 degrees inside and cell phone service is spotty.

Trying to get homeassistant working!

Jakorat,

@jerry

As someone who had to restart my 2 year old homeassistant from scratch, godspeed.

FritzAdalis,

@Jakorat
@jerry
I think my biggest problem is I think I can make it run as not root and in an unprivileged container. Developers can be irresponsible.

@FritzAdalis
What type of issues are you running into?
What're you running it on?

@jerry
I'm cleaning up my server room. Coming up on "only" two years since we moved in & a lot of stuff I "temporarily" left in boxes or set up in a "temporary" configuration are still there and the entire flow of the room is off since nothing is where I'd have put it today!

@FritzAdalis

@jerry

Gotcha ... sorry, I'll be of no use. I run it on ProxMox and imported their qcow2 image and used that as my baseline and before that I ran Core (before it was named that) in venv's, but haven't run it as raw docker.

Good Luck!

kb6nzv,

@jerry Testing different HF wire antenna configurations.

jerry,

@kb6nzv what bands do you play on?

kb6nzv,

@jerry Pretty much all of HF. Some VHF, UHF as well.

kb6nzv,

@jerry Latest experiments with 12:1 Balun on a 48 foot vertical which has 105 feet of teflon jacket wire spiraled more or less evenly. Cyclone fence is part of the Counterpoise. Works surprisingly well.

Ichinin,

@jerry Regretting buying a game for €20 that have an UI design from some kindergarten developer and fanatic nerds who defend the UI design and think's it is some kind of litmus test for their manhood to suffer through it.

CanofBottle,

@jerry dinner with the fam for Canada Day! About to hop on TryHackMe for some learning. Gotta keep that streak alive!

Anya_Adora,

@jerry 6' again after getting up from a nap. About 4' once seated again in front of my desktop fedi capable position.

malanalysis,

@jerry My TV of 15 years died and now I need a new TV but don't want a smart TV so I either have to just buy what is in stock and isolate/segment/block it, or I need to find that just-a-monitor I remember @hacks4pancakes talk about a couple years ago.

jerry,

@malanalysis @hacks4pancakes I recently had to buy new TVs for my beach place and found that the best value were the amazon fire tv’s, but well, they are fire TVs. Turns out that they work just fine with no internet connection and a cable box or Apple TV

hacks4pancakes,

@jerry @malanalysis Sceptre is kind of the kludge brand for reasonably affordable giant monitors that last.

takelgryph,

@hacks4pancakes @jerry @malanalysis i do appreciate Sceptre for their willingness to sell non-smart TVs that aren't $800 and require an expense account to purchase

Koyn,

@malanalysis @jerry @hacks4pancakes you can still find decent brand names with "dumb tvs". They often advertise them as digital signage or hospitality versions. Otherwise I've heard good things about Sceptre.

hacks4pancakes,

@Koyn @malanalysis @jerry I have three sceptre TVs and one is 10 years old and rock solid. They don't have the most whizbang curved 4k plasma screens but for what they are they are fine and reliable

wendynather,

@jerry About 5’1”, but that’s every weekend (along with weekdays).

@jerry random question while I'm online. Thought you might know. Has anyone seen or reported an uptick in phishing and shenanigans since the Wagner drama publicly ended?

jerry,

@Smootasaurus not one that I’m aware of tied to the RU/UA war, but I do believe there is a general uptick in phishing activity associated with ransomware.

Smootasaurus, (edited )
@Smootasaurus@mstdn.social avatar

@jerry thanks. Every time I see the uptick, like the last week, I'm reminded the GOP had my contact info and probably sold it. Always makes me wonder if the call's coming from inside the house LoL

@jerry now that the smoke has cleared from my area, taking the kiddo out

ScoobyDuBois,

@jerry watched The Last Drive-In last night while following related posts on Mastodon. Tonight I'm watching Barbarian in-person with friends. Tomorrow night, dinner with my parents. Should be a good weekend.

natha,

@jerry For me, it’s supposed to be a weekend off. But I’m very tempted to answers a few emails in my Imbox. Getting new bands on my agency roster over night is such a sweet feeling.

@jerry cackling that i can have air conditioning for ~450 watts, and crushing on the new empanada spot nearby :D

then adding the new ac unit to home assistant so i can have automation and that sweet sweet graph data

jerry,

@Viss impressive. What sort of AC unit do you have?

vandorb12,

@jerry @Viss I can't immediately find the thread, but it's a portable AC unit that has a heat pump instead of a traditional compressor.

Viss,
@Viss@mastodon.social avatar
