Precious few #screenshotsaturday left before release on #steam! This whole #indiegame dev journey has been tough. Would we do it again? Yes! But we'd consider more carefully the next project for sure. We probably went to #narrativegame heavy this time for a first #game. And even #pixelart is hard to keep up with when you need alot of it!
The best #debugging advice @Cyzaine ever game me was to put print statements everywhere. Some times I get lucky and the 1st one shows me the issue. Today it was 3rd times the charm!
My experience as well. I blitzed and grinded followers cuz it was easy and why not. My feed is okay in general, but I had to follower 1.5kish people to get it that way.
But I still get more than twice the engagement and meaningful engagement at that on Mastadon and Kbin, with less than half the followers. I also get little out of twitter, but I may be bad at it.
Our Indie Game Somnipathy releases in 9 weeks and I'm kinda freaking out... SO many 'little' things we've been putting off, like icons for achievements as an example, that now look like a HUGE mountain. GAH.
We're not on track for a 'big' hit or really even recouping our time spent, but that we can even consider those topics means we're doing better than many ever get to, yet...
On some level I thought something would go wrong and we wouldn't get this far. Someone critical would quit, or interest would be lost... but it didn't, and that's almost scarier. We are gonna put something real out there, and some people might care. That's a lot.
Don't get me wrong, I'm trying to sell an indie game (see my profile!!!!!!), but its crazy how the culture shifts depending on where you are! On Mastodon and Kbin I don't feel like I'm wasting time just talking to people and enjoying the company.
On twitter and threads I just feel if I'm not yelling and shouting, its not worth my time. Like I'm falling behind if I'm not trying to push the sale.

May just be a gamble on future tech. IF federation is the future of the web (and I hope it is!) getting in early and helping shape it makes sense. Its also something of proven tech at the moment, so if they just threw this up fast to take advantage of twitter fires, it makes sense to use something that they know works as opposed to pulling a bluesky and doing it all from scratch. Also means there are more developers out there that are familiar with the tech.
I'm caught between wanting our indie game to thrive and hating big tech platforms. I like it on the fediverse, its fun here and I like talking to people here. But I feel pressured to use Threads/twitter/etc since we've put so much work into the game and want as wide an audience as we can for our debut. It's tough and annoying.

People scattered to the winds on a dozen different platforms after twitter started dying but months later we have bluesky which feels like a twitter clone missing features, but lots of journalists and famous people on board so reading is decent. Mastodon has 500 character limits and unlimited seamless editing which makes Bluesky feel more broken to me, so I prefer to write here and kinda hope bluesky dies, even though Mastodon is still too nerdy for regular people to adopt and find their tribes.

Imagine if your reddit comments could be read on instagram, twitter, and facebook automatically, and you could read everyone elses comments from reddit too! Not 100% accurate, but definitely a simpler explanation and gets people interested.
Seconding learn-gdscript from zero by GDquest. VERY few other tutorials work if you literally don't know how to code at all, GDquests is the only one I know that'll teach you the basics.
What I hate about Humble Bundle software and asset stuff is you can't look at the license until after you buy it. We bought a sound effect pack which, as written, we couldn't store the sounds in source control or use it in a commercial work. Humble said we had to bring it up with the creators, and the creators wouldn't ever answer us. Was annoying, but at least a cheap lesson.
