mttvll,

The Pocket app on my iPhone was automatically updated to the latest version.
I haven't seen a jankier scroll since maybe Android 4.0 in 2011.
Everything is slow and jumping all over the place.

What is happening???? 🙃

@mttvll The "best" thing is that from version 8 they remove highlights from the iOS app. It will come in the future. Literally the only feature for what I paid a year plan 🙄

@mttvll This is the first hiccup because the Firefox login is slowly creeping up! 😬

barrybeebenson,

@mttvll i moved to instapaper. pocket was adding too many social features and it felt like it was getting worse at its original purpose.

@mttvll Pocket has gotten so cluttered, I’d have moved away if it didn’t have my favorite read aloud function.

@mttvll move to @omnivore . You won’t regret it 😁

benmounseywood,

@wiredfire does @omnivore save a permanent record of your saved links? In the event that the page is deleted for example. That’s the one thing Pocket (premium) has had over competitors

omnivore,
@omnivore@pkm.social avatar

@benmounseywood @wiredfire we do archive the content fetched when you first save.

wiredfire,
@wiredfire@mas.to avatar

@omnivore @benmounseywood well today I learned! 😃

omnivore,
@omnivore@pkm.social avatar

@wiredfire @benmounseywood yeah not exposed in the UI at all but add /original to the end of an article URL and you can see the archived original content

benmounseywood,

@omnivore @wiredfire Amazing, thanks! Does that include images ?

omnivore,
@omnivore@pkm.social avatar

@benmounseywood @wiredfire it does not but we do pull images through the proxy and they are cached there but no guarantees on images. We really should improve that and offer guarantees

wiredfire,
@wiredfire@mas.to avatar

@omnivore @benmounseywood I don’t think there’s any “should” about it. Omnivore is an open source project, and given omnivore.app is offered up totally free of charge you don’t owe us a damn thing! Quite the reverse 😁 Just keep being the brilliant bunch of humans that you are.

wiredfire,
@wiredfire@mas.to avatar

@benmounseywood @omnivore ah I don’t believe so. Alternatives I could suggest for that aspect are raindrop.io, an excellent bookmarking service with a “permanent library” feature in its premium offering. At a pinch there’s always throwing a link at archive.org for safekeeping too, somewhat less graceful though.

Omnivore also integrates with Logseq and Obsidian both of which I expect could be used to store perm copies of articles, not tried it myself though.

benmounseywood,

@wiredfire thanks, I’ll take a look at Raindrop, I’ve heard of it but not tried it, maybe it’s time to give it a go ✌️

wiredfire,
@wiredfire@mas.to avatar

@benmounseywood I really like raindrop. It’s not a read it later app, to be fair, but having all my collected bookmarks in something not tied to this or that browser is great.

marcogom,
@marcogom@androiddev.social avatar

@wiredfire @mttvll @omnivore Interesting! I will try that for sure!

developerjustin,
@developerjustin@mastodon.social avatar

@mttvll not even specific to iOS, Pocket as a service is on a steep downward trajectory. @dcseifert has been covering their missteps and they’re really starting to pile up.

@mttvll Jesus, you are right! 🤮
