WTF? This guy is up to no good. First, created OpenAI to scan everything ignoring everyone's copyrights. Now, Sam Altman's new project uses an orb to scan people's eyes in order to create a unique digital identity. This is a privacy nightmare. Never give your biometric to a for-profit corporation https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-07-24/sam-altman-s-worldcoin-crypto-project-officially-launches

I am concerned about his intentions as he may sell your biometric information to the highest bidder for advertising purposes. I don't trust him. I've read enough sci-fi books and comics to know this idea is terrible.

giovi69,

@nixCraft also this one is a terrible idea

@nixCraft also you know from demolition man what happens to people who tie their login to their eyes.

@nixCraft And still people support him 🤦
Like:

  1. What if humans do it, ChatGPT is another form of learning
  2. ChatGPT is very helpful to me and I'm no longer going to use X anymore
  3. If your source code or website is public, then you don't have any rights to say who gets to access it
    ...

AI is not dangerous, it's the people using it...

@nixCraft @aral I’m not sure Mayo Biobank having my is a marked improvement…

jsv,

@nixCraft My only addenda to this is just this: don't give up your biometric data if you can avoid it. Obviously Governments are going to work the hardest to get it, but honestly it should be completely personal (no institution should be privy to it). I hope we'll be able to wrap this type of data in Zero Knowledge systems that don't reveal precise underlying info, but that is still a ways off.

@nixCraft Eyes change all the time. You get cataracts, and you lose your ID? Seems obviously idiotic.

@nixCraft Is it infringing on copyrights to train on data? I'm wary of rapidly advancing technology as well, but isn't machine learning more analogous to a person viewing a piece of work, and then creating their own work inspired by it, rather than just copying another's work?

outerspec,

@nixCraft and it’s related to cryptocurrency… this has scam written all over it

opalium,

@nixCraft What a terrible day to have eyes.

housepanther,

@nixCraft The only way a is going to get my biometric data is just prior to my cremation. 😈

..nor a "non-profit" by Sam Altman

@nixCraft Nah, you have two eyeballs and can rip one out when the service gets compromised ;-)

@nixCraft We know how single-identity digital signatures end up. Just look at how India’s Aadhar system turned out.

Now. We do need to start signing our human identity, and prove biometrically that we are human. But, vendor lock-in with that is absolutely out of the question.

Anonymity can be included in digital authentication, but it’s a more complex system and requires international government cooperation.

@nixCraft I'd say never give your biometrics to anyone. They should always be stored on device in encrypted format with key inside OS's keystore.
