You receive a call on your phone.
The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraud.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

Your phone buzzes. You tap the notification This is what you see.

Still think it is a scam?

@Edent I once transferred a large amount of money from my phone. Immediately I got call from a unknown number. Due to my past experience with unknown numbers, I decided to hang it up.
Later becoming curious, I checked the number on TrueCaller and found that it was from my bank.
May be they called to confirm that it was actually me who transferred the amount or something bad happened?
I immediately checked all the transactions and found nothing suspicious.

Mastodon has two types of people: people who really want replies to their posts and people who extremely do not.

(I am in the first category, reply away)

arunmani,
@arunmani@mastodon.social avatar

@tomw speak only if it makes a difference /s

My Mastodon usage is mostly liking, boosting things that can be beneficial (like someone asking for help etc.) and rarely reply.

And when I reply, I get no reply back, sometimes, very rarely, a like :(

Passwords must contain at least one uppercase letter, lowercase letter, numeral, and special character.

Passwords must be at least eight characters long.

Passwords must not match any of your previous twelve passwords.

Passwords should be kept away from open flames.

Passwords should not be taken if you plan to drive or operate heavy machinery.

Passwords are at your own risk; no lifeguard on duty.

@maxleibman Passwords are best served cold.

Today, after nearly half a year of development, we have landed the ability to select Wi-Fi networks from the top-panel.

The best part about this feature is, now that we have decided over the structure, we can implement the same feature for Bluetooth, VPNs, etc. easily.

A big thanks to @agx for his feedback, patches and review throughout the process!

A video showing the new feature in Phosh where users can select the Wi-Fi networks from top panel.

why do rust programs have so many deps. did we learn nothing from js?

arunmani,
@arunmani@mastodon.social avatar

@jacqueline I actually Rust had Python style "batteries included" philosophy. That is, a little broader set of standard modules. I hate to install a dep for JSON, CSV or SQLite etc.

I ever so often close the ๐ŸŽต- player and when grabbing the ๐Ÿ“ฑ I'd have to unlock it to just start the ๐ŸŽต player and then ๐Ÿ”’ the ๐Ÿ“ฑ right away again (as there's controls on the ๐Ÿ”’-screen then anyway).

Hence I wrote a small plugin to add arbitrary "launchers" to the ๐Ÿ”’-screen via a desktop file.
This is very simplistic atm (as we e.g. don't track app-state) but gets the job done initially.

I only used it for that purpose but there's other potential use cases:

arunmani,
@arunmani@mastodon.social avatar

@agx So you ask me what's the advantage of running a true free and open source operating system/stack?

Everything! It is really amazing to see how we can make the device work exactly like what we want with just a little amount of coding.

Really disappointing to see how people have started to accept closed source with a few predefined toggles as "freedom".

agx, (edited ) to linuxphones

After lots of cleanup over the past releases I'm inclined to switch 's main branch to track git rather than the latest stable version as I can then catch up with new wlroots features faster. Stable releases would then be cut from a wlroots-0.xy branch tracking the stable wlroots version. Good idea?

@nitin @mastodonindians JEE is already a lost cause. If we go with resume based approach like foreign, then there will be extreme corruption and bias. Selecting by exams is also ineffective as it sides more with people who can afford coaching and pressure.

The only way is to resolve all this is by having the government to invest more money in (at least) all the public funded institutions and give them all equal status like IITs/NITs/IIITs
